Jim was born in Oklahoma and moved to Wichita when he was in the 2nd grade and has lived here ever since. He is the founder of the Wichita Stars which started his career as a coach. Jim coached Impact Sports CEO Jason Wenzel, in Baseball, Football, and Basketball when Jason was a child.
He attended Wichita State and majored in Sport Administration where he also held the title as WSU's Head Softball coach in 1987. During his time at Wichita State he had the privilege to coach Karma Vairo that played shortstop for Team Canada 1996 Olympics. When he graduated in 1989, they were the first WSU women’s team that qualified to go to an NCAA tournament. He is still the winningest coach in Wichita State history.
From 2000-2013 he owned Jim Maynard's Fastpitch Academy where he held private instruction and sent several pitchers to D1 teams such as, Oklahoma State, Bowling Green, San Diego State etc.
He now is retired and spends his free time at Impact Sports helping athletes reach the next level.
